Being a team in the Plywood Cup means ...

  • 4 intrepid individuals willing to apply their enthusiasm, ingenuity and teamwork.
  • A desire to contribute to a worthwhile charitable event by getting sponsorship for their team.

The team receives ...

  • Event T-Shirts
  • 4 Awards Dinner tickets
  • Recognition from the charities

A Grand Prize is awarded to the team that raises the most charitable funds.

The winner of the race will have the team's name engraved on the coveted Plywood Cup Trophy.

Prizes and trophies will also be awarded for other achievements.

Teams receive:

  • 2 sheets of plywood,
  • 1 eight foot piece of 2x2,
  • 1 roll of duct tape,
  • 1 small bad of nails,
  • 1 hammer,
  • 1 hand saw,
  • a measuring stick
  • and a pencil.

They have 90 minutes to construct a boat that will carry one of them across False creek.

"Okay, so we are not talking about the Americas Cup here, but the enthusiasm and sense of accomplishment is right up there."

Of course, our friendly Coast Gaurd is there to retrieve anyone who parts company with their craft; and, alas, there are occasions where a plywood boat has gone down to find Nemo.
